About Me

Hi, my name is Vishan Muralikaran and welcome to my gallery! I am currently studying Mechatronics Engineering with an option in Biomechanics at the University of Waterloo. I'm a man of many interests and love combining those interests through the means of engineering. Currently this entails combining the medical industry with robotics.

Projects

Search and Rescue Robot

Jan. 2026 - Apr. 2026

Created search and rescue robot that is able to follow a path and pick up objects using a robotic arm. The robot utilizes a Raspberry Pi and Arduino for control, encoders for precise arm movement and a camera for navigation. The software implemented includes, inverse kinematics for arm control, computer vision for object detection, PID control for path following, as well as a custom state machine for control logic. Mechanically the robot features 4-wheel drive, a 3-DOF arm, and 3D-printed components for the chassis. Electrically a custom motor controller PCB was designed to mitigate space and out preform current market level H-bridges. The project was designed to challenge my skills in both software and hardware, allowing me to learn a lot about robotics and control systems.

Mujoco Walking Hand

Sep. 2025 - Dec. 2025

Created a custom hand to walk in the Mujoco physics engine. The hand was based on the ant-v5 model, but with a more human-like design. Mujoco uses XML to define the model, so the Solidworks model was recreated in XML format.

EEG Signal Processing PCB

Jan. 2024 - Apr. 2024

Custom signal processing PCB for EEG signals, designed to amplify and filter brainwave signals for use in a brain-computer interface (BCI) project. The PCB includes instrumentation amplifiers for signal amplification, active filters for noise reduction, and an analog-to-digital converter for digitizing the EEG signals. The project involved designing the PCB layout, selecting appropriate components, and programming the microcontroller to process the EEG signals and interface with a computer for further analysis and control of the BCI system.

Prosthetic Arm - SMA Actuator PCB

Sep. 2024 - Dec. 2024

Developed a custom PCB for controlling shape memory alloy (SMA) actuators in a prosthetic arm. The PCB includes a microcontroller for processing sensor inputs and controlling the SMA actuators, as well as power management circuitry to ensure efficient operation. The project involved designing the PCB layout, selecting appropriate components, and programming the microcontroller to achieve precise control of the prosthetic arm's movements.
